On January 6th at about 1:30 a.m., Lane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 200 block of River Loop 2, Eugene, at the request of fire personnel. A residence in the area was on fire with a person believed to be inside. Fire personnel later confirmed a person was deceased inside. Their identity is being withheld at this time. The roadway was closed through the morning as firefighters brought fire under control. The Lane County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident along with Lane Fire Authority’s Fire Marshal and the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office. The Lane County Sheriff’s Office would also like to thank Oregon State Police and Eugene Springfield Fire for their assistance on this incident.
