Marshfield’s basketball teams opened the 2025 Sky-Em League play with a pair of wins over visiting Junction City Tuesday at the Pirate Palace, Coos Bay, but North Bend dropped both of their games to visiting Marist Catholic. The Spartan girls beat the Bulldogs, 53-33, while the Lady Pirates stopped Junction City with a 47-41 win. In a non-league game, Cottage Grove beat visiting Newport, 52-39. In the boy’s games, North Bend lost 58-44 to Marist Catholic, while Marshfield downed Junction City, 65-46. In a non-league game, Cottage Grove took down Newport, 63-53. The two Bay Area teams return to league play on Friday, Jan. 10th, at MHS with North Bend taking on Marshfield. Other prep boys’ games, 3A - Siuslaw won at Toledo, 82-28. No score, Coquille at Brookings-Harbor. 2A – Myrtle Pt. lost at Waldport, 51-45. Reedsport beat visiting Glendale, 57-33. Girls’ results: 3A – Siuslaw lost at Toledo, 41-22. No score Coquille at Brookings-Harbor. 2A – Myrtle Pt. won at Waldport, 41-40. Visiting Glendale won at Reedsport, 62-43.

Coquille (9-1) is No. 2 in this week’s OSAA/Coach’s 3A Prep Basketball Poll. The Lady Devils trail Amity (10-0). Vale ((8-1) is No. 3, Banks (9-3) No. 4 and Pleasant Hill (8-4) No. 5. The OSAA/OnPoint Community Credit Union 3A State Basketball Tournaments will again be held in the Bay Area, March 9-12, at both Marshfield and North Bend high schools. In the 2A Poll, Bandon (7-3) is ranked No. 6. Myrtle Pt. (8-2) was among “others receiving significant votes.”
