Description

Clusters of rhododendron blooms, known as trusses, fill the annual flower show during the Florence Rhododendron Festival. More than 1,000 trusses are displayed and judged each year.

If you ask Mike Bones, the president of the Siuslaw Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society, how he got the nickname of “Rhododendron King,” he’ll say he has no idea. But the lifelong Florence resident and lover of rhododendrons has been growing the flowering shrubs since 1962, when they were the first form of income he knew.
