CONNECTING THE COMMUNITY WITH NEW TOOLS AND FAMILY RESOURCES

Did you know that the Coos Bay Public Library has a Library of Things? This special collection provides a wide variety of things that you can borrow such as a sewing machine, life jackets, musical instruments, baking pans, and lots more. We are constantly adding new items to the Library of Things, including items that will help you with food preservation. In fact, this Saturday, August 23 from 3-5 p.m. the Library has partnered with the OSU Extension to host a food preservation kickoff event. This event will showcase some new items that are being added to the Library of Things that are just for food preservation such as large pots for water canning, pressure cookers, and food dehydrators. This kick off event is the first in a series of programs to help you learn about food preservation. In the next few months, we will be offering classes in water bath canning, pressure cooker canning and pickling. So come down to the Library and learn about the ways we can help you preserve your fall harvests!

On September 4 from 4-6 p.m. the Library will be hosting a family resource fair. This program will be specifically geared toward parents and caregivers for young people aged 0-18. Connect with organizations that offer services for young people and families and learn what our community has to offer. Some of the participating organizations include CASA, Care Connections CCR&R, 4H, Oregon Department of Human Services, Starfish Youth Therapy Center, Every Child Coos, South Coast Head Start, and many, many more. Come find out about after school enrichment activities, childcare options, resources for children with autism, food resources, preschool opportunities and other programs to help your children succeed.Photos from Coos Bay - City Government's post
