Records showed Diaz’s license was suspended at a misdemeanor level, and he had an active warrant for a prior DUII charge. On June 11 at approximately 2:42 p.m., while patrolling Old Wagon Road in Coos Bay, Deputy Smith spotted Diaz driving the same white Ford. When Smith activated his patrol lights, Diaz sped down a residential driveway in an attempt to evade him. Diaz abandoned the truck and fled on foot, trying to hide nearby. Deputy Smith called for assistance from Sgt. Slater and K9 Cena, but located Diaz before they arrived. With help from Coquille PD, investigators confirmed Diaz was the driver in the June 7 incident. Diaz was arrested for driving while suspended, his active warrant, and now faces charges related to the Coquille pursuit.
