COMMUNITY ACADEMY: APPLY NOW Ever wondered what happens behind the scenes at your police department? Our Community Academy is your chance to find out. Over 12 Thursday evenings, you’ll meet the people who serve Hillsboro, get to know our specialty teams and units (including our K9s), and learn how we train and conduct investigations. You’ll also visit the 911 Center and the Washington County Jail. Classes start Thursday, February 4. Applicants must be at least 18, and interpreter services are available. Happy 150th, Hillsboro. On Saturday, the community came out to the Downtown Hillsboro Saturday Market to celebrate 150 years since the City was incorporated in October 1876. We were glad to be there with you. There’s still time to be part of the celebration. The City is building a picture mosaic out of photos from across the community, and together they’ll form the 150th Anniversary logo. We’ve wrapped our 3rd Annual Multi-Agency Cadet Competition. On Saturday, September 26, cadets from seven agencies put their skills to the test in realistic scenarios: domestic violence calls, suspicious persons, trespassing, building searches, unknown-risk traffic stops, and unwanted persons. Thank you to everyone who took part this year: Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office, Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, Redmond Police Department, Beaverton Police Department, Gladstone Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and Hillsboro Police Department. A special thank you to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office for hosting us at their facility, and to the Portland Metro Explosive Disposal Unit, whose team gave cadets two live explosive demonstrations and a hands-on look at their robots, portable X-ray machines, bomb suits, and an explosive detection dog. Events like this only happen because agencies are willing to share their time and knowledge with the next generation. On Tuesday, October 6, our cadets hosted cadets from Yamhill County, Clackamas County, Beaverton Police, and Gladstone Police for an evening with FBI Supervisory Special Agent Laura Monti. She talked about her career with the FBI and the work of the Behavioral Analysis Unit. A recruiter and a community outreach specialist from the local FBI office joined her to cover how the Bureau builds trust in the communities it serves, current hiring requirements, how to prepare, and the FBI’s Teen Academy. 17 ARRESTED DURING RETAIL THEFT BLITZ | On October 9th, HPD conducted a retail theft blitz operation in partnership with loss prevention staff from local retailers. The operation resulted in 17 arrests (including 4 individuals with outstanding warrants), with 112 items recovered. The stolen items did not include food, but consisted of trading cards, fragrances, cosmetics, clothing, electronics, and alcohol. Those arrested (listed below) include several individuals suspected of involvement in organized retail theft. ASHLEY INMAN - Theft in the first degree (felony) GRISEL MAZZA – Theft in the first degree (felony), Possession of burglary tools, arrest warrant MATTHEW WAGNER – Theft in the second degree, Possession of a controlled substance, arrest warrant SIRIN BREMER – Theft in the second degree MICHAEL HUDDLESTON – Theft in the second degree, Possession of a restricted weapon, arrest warrant RICARDO BUTLER – Theft in the third degree ROBERT BRAY – Theft in the third degree, Criminal mischief in the first degree (felony) BRETT BUTLER – Theft in the third degree, Possession of a controlled substance, arrest warrant ALLEN MILLS – Theft in the second degree BRADLEY ASHBY – Theft in the second degree, Possession of a controlled substance GAVIN KIRK - Theft in the second degree CATHERINE CRUZ - Theft in the third degree SAMANTHA YOUNGBLOOD – Theft in the third degree Four juveniles were released to their parents. This operation was conducted in partnership with the Washington County District Attorney’s Office and was funded by Oregon’s Organized Retail Theft Grant Program. The funding is used to enhance efforts to investigate, prosecute, and stop shoplifters and organized retail theft crews from targeting businesses in Washington County. The money awarded allows law enforcement and prosecutors to engage in more joint retail theft missions, and allows investigators to focus more resources on criminal fencing operations. Grant funding is also distributed to eligible small and medium-sized retailers to support a retailer security camera upgrade program. FAMILY PEACE CENTER PARTNERSHIP | The Hillsboro Police Department is proud to announce a new partnership with the Washington County Domestic Violence Resource Center to enhance services for community members impacted by Domestic Violence. Beginning in October 2026, HPD will transition its current internal advocate resource model to the Domestic Violence Resource Center. This partnership will provide individuals and families affected by Domestic Violence with expanded, centralized services, including 24 hour advocacy and comprehensive support. HPD will continue its commitment to victim services with an assigned Detective to the Family Peace Center to assist those impacted by Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Child Abuse. HPD will continue to support Domestic Violence cases internally with our Domestic Abuse Response Team. This team comprises specially trained officers who investigate cases of Domestic Violence. We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to our Domestic Violence Advocates for their exceptional service and dedication to community members during times of crisis. Our advocates will have the opportunity to continue their work as part of the Domestic Violence Resource Center team. We are excited about this collaboration and the increased level of support it will bring to those affected by Domestic Violence, Sexual Abuse, and Child Abuse. Located in Hillsboro, the Domestic Violence Resource Center is housed in the Family Peace Center and brings together multiple resources in one location to better serve our community.
