Description
We understand that homelessness is a complex issue, and we are committed to treating everyone with dignity and respect. While we continue to offer resources and support to those experiencing homelessness, there are times when we must enforce camping laws to ensure public safety and health.
On February 25th, around 3:25 p.m., the HPD Bike Team observed a tent in violation of the Hillsboro Prohibited Camping Municipal Code. Officers gave the individual an opportunity to leave and provided resources, but they refused. After a reasonable amount of time, the individual was excluded from the parking lot for 90 days. The following day, on February 26th, at approximately 7:25 a.m., officers returned to follow up and found the tent still in place. As a result, this subject was arrested for trespass, possession of Methamphetamine and multiple Misdemeanor Warrants.
The Hillsboro Police Department will continue working with local partners towards creating long-term solutions that support individuals while still keeping our community both livable and safe.
