Portland was giving Austin FC everything it had. The Timbers dominated possession. They strung give-and-go passes together like video game combos and peppered the Austin zone for almost the entirety of the match. After two years of missing out on the playoffs, the Timbers came into Wednesday just needing a draw to clinch a spot in the postseason. The 662-day drought seemed all but over. Portland could taste it.
