Description
π»βββ There is snow in the mountains! βββπ»
On Monday evening, most Lane County Sheriffβs Search & Rescue volunteers were searching for the elderly woman missing near Elmira.
Several volunteers also responded to a forest road off of Brice Creek after a Tesla slid off the road in the snow. The driver was unsure exactly where they were, and unable to get back on the road. SAR volunteers located them and were able to assist with getting the vehicle back on the road and down the mountain.
Please follow these tips to stay safe when you explore the outdoors in our county:
β°οΈ Always tell someone where you are going and when you plan to return.
π¨οΈ Know conditions before you leave - rain in the valley can mean ice up high!
ποΈ Be prepared to stay out overnight - even if you don't plan to get out of your car.
πΊοΈ Bring maps for offline navigation - cell service can be spotty!
π If you go on the water, ALWAYS wear a life jacket!
If you become lost, STAY PUT! Find a way to signal or make your location visible. Always carry a whistle and flashlight in the outdoors β it just might save your life.
Nearly every week, Lane County Sheriff's Search & Rescue deputies and volunteers assist our residents and visitors in all types of environments.
