Deputy, resident rescue injured passenger from nearby flames after crash on Crow Road, driver arrested
On December 21st at 1 a.m., Lane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a single vehicle crash in the 26400 block of Crow Road, east of Crow. A deputy arrived first on scene and observed the vehicle was down a 20-foot ravine and engulfed in flames. The driver and passenger, who was significantly injured and unable to walk, were dangerously close the burning vehicle.
The deputy climbed down the wet, muddy bank along with a resident who lived nearby and together they pulled the passenger to safety. The driver and passenger were both transported by medics to an area hospital.
Preliminary investigation showed the driver, Tamika Rose Luttrell, 18, of Harrisburg, attempted to pass another car on a corner in a no-passing zone and lost control. The vehicle struck a tree head on, then rolled down the embankment. Luttrell was arrested for Reckless Driving, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and Assault in the 4th Degree.
Thanks to Lane Fire Authority and area residents for their assistance on this call.Photos from Lane County Sheriff's Office's post

- Greet deputies when they visit Dispatch (some need fetch, others tug, some snuggles)
- Provide morning therapy sessions to detectives as needed (some have comfy chairs, too)
- Attend meetings as needed (boring, but extra pets)
- Visit partner agencies (Hi Springfield Police Dispatch!)

Dexter man arrested for DUI, warrants after fleeing traffic stop near Lowell
On December 18th at 5 p.m., a Lane County Sheriff’s deputy contracted to patrol U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lands observed a car parked in front of a gate to a secure area of Lookout Point Dam, east of Lowell. The deputy contacted the driver, Richard Leon Gaffney, 54, of Dexter, and observed he was impaired. Gaffney reversed away from the deputy and sped out of the parking lot, driving toward Lowell on W. Boundary Road.
The deputy initiated a traffic stop, but discontinued to allow the vehicle to slow before driving into Lowell and potentially causing a crash or severe injury to bystanders. Driving conditions were also hazardous due to extremely heavy rain and darkness. The deputy was also alone, with his nearest cover officer driving from Creswell.
Gaffney instead continued speeding until he crashed into the ditch, just before entering Lowell where other vehicles were on the road. The deputy arrested Gaffney without further incident. During the arrest, two loaded firearms were found concealed in the vehicle. After additional investigation, Gaffney was arrested and lodged at the Lane County Jail for:
- DUII – Drugs
- Fleeing or Attempt to Elude Police Officer by Vehicle
- Reckless Driving
- Recklessly Endangering
- Driving While Suspended – Misdemeanor
- Two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
- Lane County Circuit Court failure to appear warrant for Driving While Suspended
- Springfield Municipal failure to appear warrant for DUIIPhotos from Lane County Sheriff's Office's post

12/18/25 - Deputies arrest Creswell man after barricade, Eugene couple targeting local business in separate calls
On December 17th at 10:30 p.m., Lane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence in the 82100 block of Davisson Road, south of Creswell, to contact Jose Donaldo DeLeon, 32, of Creswell. Several days before, DeLeon had entered a residence without permission and slashed the victim’s tires.
Last night when deputies arrived, DeLeon barricaded inside his residence, a small shed. Deputies spoke with DeLeon over the phone as an armored rescue vehicle and members of the Lane County Sheriff’s Crisis Negotiation Team responded to assist. After attempts at negotiation failed, an arrest warrant was granted by a Lane County Circuit Court judge, allowing entry to the residence.
Deputies deployed pepper spray into the shed without effect. Deputies then forced a door open, and arrested DeLeon without further incident. He was lodged at the Lane County Jail for Criminal Trespass in the 1st Degree, Criminal Mischief in the 2nd Degree, and Disorderly Conduct in the 2nd Degree.
On December 18th at 1 a.m., while deputies were still working through the above call, a report of people stealing gas from a business in Glenwood came in. Deputies responded observed Kevin Raye Fanning, 59, and Kristina Michelle Cole, 45, both of Eugene, siphoning gas from a company vehicle. Cole initially provided a false name, however deputies identified them and determined they both had warrants for their arrest. During a search of the vehicle belonging to Fanning, a felon, deputies located a firearm.
Cole was arrested and lodged at the Lane County Jail for:
- Criminal Trespass in the 2nd Degree
- Theft in the 3rd Degree
- Giving False Information to a Peace Officer
- A Marion County Circuit Court warrant for Theft in the 2nd Degree
- A Lane County probation warrant for Possession of Methamphetamine
Fanning was arrested and lodged at the Lane County Jail for:
- Felon in Possession of a Firearm
- Theft in the 3rd Degree
- Eugene Municipal Court failure to appear warrants for Giving False Information to a Peace Officer, Trespass in the 1st Degree, and Failure to Report as a Sex Offender.
Due to limited staffing, several deputies worked overtime well past the end of their shifts due to these calls. Thanks to Oregon State Police for their assistance on Davisson Road.
