7/1/26 - LCSO #05-6032 - 21st Anniversary of Oakridge Double Homicide
On July 1st, 2005, just after 5:00pm, LCSO dispatch received a report that two subjects were found dead on a Forest Service Road outside Oakridge. Deputies responded to a dispersed camp site off Forest Service Road 2134. They found two adults deceased. The deceased were identified as then 54-year-old Stevan Lynn Haugen and 56-year-old Jeanette Elaine Bauman. Stevan Haugen, Jeanette Bauman and their dog Ceasar were all killed by gunfire.
Lane County Detectives responded and investigated the scene. Despite countless hours of investigation, every lead in this case eventually went cold. The case continues to be investigated, now, by LCSO Cold Case Investigators. LCSO Cold Case investigators hope more information exists in the community that can help solve this decades old murder and bring closure to their families.
Anyone with any information about this case is asked to contact LCSO investigators at 541-682-4150.
Cold case investigators are always reviewing unsolved cases to see if new technologies or techniques can reexamine old evidence. Often this testing is conducted with private laboratories and can be costly. LCSO Cold Case Detectives are volunteers who willingly donate their time to help solve cases. The program is completely funded through donations. Anyone wanting to contribute to the program can do so by following the link below.

--LCSO Negotiators Partner with other Local Agencies for Training
Crisis Negotiation Teams from Lane County Sheriff’s Office, Eugene Police and Springfield Police, recently trained together at Marist High School to strengthen the communication and collaboration that help resolve high-risk incidents safely.
Negotiators responded to a simulated hostage situation involving multiple hostage takers who were in constant communication with the Crisis Negotiator teams. Officers from several agencies played the role of hostage takers, while police cadets served as hostage role players. Negotiators worked side by side with their regional partners to establish communication, gather critical information, build rapport, and work toward a peaceful resolution.
Training like this ensures our teams are ready to work together when every conversation matters.Photos from Lane County Sheriff's Office's post

Additional dedicated funding to the Sheriff’s Office Police Services Division would be used to staff full-time traffic safety enforcement deputies if ever obtained. Our deputies are committed to the safety of our community, and traffic safety enforcement is paramount in order to prevent the unnecessary loss of lives on our roadways.
The Lane County Sheriff’s Office reminds everyone:
🚙Plan your safe ride home ahead of time
🍺If you drink or use drugs, do not drive for any reason
🔑If you know someone has been drinking or using drugs, don't let them drive
💃If you host a party with alcohol, make sure all guests leave with a sober driver
👍And please, always wear your seatbelt!
Drive safe in 2026 – Please get a ride if you have been drinking or using drugs!!
