Information from the Lane County District Attorney’s Office:
—
Date of Release: April 23rd, 2025
From: Christopher J. Parosa, District Attorney
RE: State v. Drake Sentencing
On April 17, 2025, following a 16 day trial, a Lane County Circuit Court jury convicted Matthew Allen Drake, DOB February 12, 1979, of the crimes of Rape in the First Degree (four counts), Sodomy in the First Degree (two counts), Using a Child in Display of Sexually Explicit
Conduct (two counts), Encouraging Child Sexual Abuse in the First Degree (two counts), Encouraging Child Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree (two counts), and Tampering with Physical Evidence.
The jury found Drake guilty of raping and sodomizing a child under the age of sixteen (16) multiple times and compelling the child to send him nude images, which he attempted to delete from evidence. This case came to the attention of the Lane County Sheriff’s Office when
friends of the victim urged the minor to come forward and report. Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office immediately began an investigation and Mr. Drake was arrested on March 23, 2023.
Today, April 23, 2025, Judge Clara Rigmaiden sentenced the defendant to 600 months in the Oregon Department of Corrections with lifetime post-prison supervision, sex offender registration, HIV/DNA testing, and restitution. The sentence was imposed under Ballot Measure 73, the Oregon Crimefighting Act, which was passed by voters in 2010.

Thanks to our many Administrative Professionals who keep the Sheriff's Office running!
One of our largest administrative work groups is our Police Records Unit. They provide services over the phone and in person. They work behind the scenes to serve our community and to support all other work groups within the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.
When you arrive at the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, you will likely speak with a Police Records Officer at either our Civil Intake or Concealed Handgun Licensing (CHL) front counters.
The Civil intake unit processes court paperwork such as protection orders, subpoenas, court-ordered evictions, small claims notices, as well as processing impounded and towed vehicle paperwork. Our CHL unit, in addition to processing new and renewal CHL applications, is responsible for criminal justice-related and public fingerprinting, sex offender registration, running background checks for firearms restorations, and processing OLCC applications.
The Police Records Unit is also responsible for handling information for staff and the community regarding any police reports or police records. This includes reviewing reports, report control, release of public information, records maintenance, data entry, and managing the availability and confidentiality of all records. Additionally, this unit maintains and distributes copies of records to authorized persons and agencies to assist in the process of agency collaboration.
New this year, Police Records is undergoing a partial renovation to the decades-old work area and creating two additional workspaces, as the Lane County Sheriff’s Office transitions from all-paper filing of reports and documentation to mainly digital.
Thanks for your dedication to Lane County!

Lowell man convicted in sex abuse case after Sheriff’s Office investigation
On July 5, 2023, Lane County Sheriff’s detectives arrested Roscoe Rick Redden, 68, of Lowell, for multiple crimes related to a sex abuse investigation.
Detectives had begun investigating the report of sexual abuse after it was referred to them by DHS. Two minor juveniles under the age of 12 years old disclosed Redden, who was known to them, had sexually abused them multiple times.
With prosecution by the Lane County District Attorney’s Office, Redden was convicted in mid-April by a jury of his peers of multiple crimes:
- Two counts of Sodomy in the 1st Degree
- Unlawful Sexual Penetration in the 1st Degree
- Four counts of Sexual Abuse in the 1st Degree
On April 21st, 2025, Redden was sentenced to 675 months (just over 56 years) in the Oregon Department of Corrections.
Thanks to DHS, Kids FIRST, and the Lane County District Attorney’s Office for their assistance on this case.

A message from Sheriff Cliff Harrold:
It’s National Volunteers Week and I’m excited to highlight the outstanding work being done by our very own Lane County Sheriff’s Office volunteers! Although our volunteers steadfastly work all year long, this specific week gives us an opportunity to step back and recognize these hardworking individuals who dedicate their time, efforts, talents and passion to serve the people of Lane County.
Our public service extends beyond the reach of our paid employees in the Corrections, Police Services, and Operations Support Divisions. Our volunteers give their time through a variety of ways, all with the same goal of serving the residents of Lane County. We currently have well over 300 volunteers donating thousands of hours to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office and community.
To put the hard work into numbers, our volunteers donate more than 28,000 hours annually, encompassing search and rescue missions, trainings, cold case investigation, public outreach, crime prevention, main office greetings and information, jail library, support groups, and religious services provided to adults in custody. I have listed below several of the programs to give a better idea of the vital functions being handled day in and day out by our volunteers who greatly improve the quality of service we are able to deliver to the Lane County community.
- Cold Case Team
- Mounted Posse
- Reserve Deputy Sheriffs
- Cadet Program
- Search and Rescue
- Crime Prevention Team
- Corrections Library/Groups/Religious Services
- Main Office Information
- Chaplains
We are honored and so fortunate to have every single volunteer as a member of the Lane County Sheriff’s Office family. Thank you for your time, your dedication, and your commitment to serve!
- Cliff

Congratulations to Deputy Hearn for recently completing Patrol FTEP!
Lane County Sheriff’s deputies assigned to patrol enter the Field Training and Evaluation Process (FTEP). They also attend Basic Police Academy at the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training.
Deputy Hearn reassigned to Patrol after graduating from the Corrections Academy and working in the Lane County Jail for several years. She brings a wealth of experience from interacting with adults in custody at the jail. Deputy Hearn enjoys getting out into the community and serving in the unique way patrol allows, especially helping people on their worst days.

💥 Congratulations to the newest members of Lane County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue! 💥
These volunteers dedicated 130 hours over the past few months to learn navigation, outdoor survival, wilderness first aid, search technique, and more. The final test is a weekend in the mountains where they sleep in survival shelters and conduct a mock search at night – where just about everything is thrown at them!
Volunteers who complete the training are certified to deploy on search and rescue missions, but must complete ongoing training.
Most members will continue their training with Ground Search & Rescue, while a few will also continue training in technical rescue with Eugene Mountain Rescue. There might even be a future SAR canine handler in the group!
Thanks to our more than 180 volunteers for the incredible work you do every week to help Lane County’s residents and visitors.
