The second week of April we take time to recognize and thank those that answer approximately 93,000 calls every year in our county.

They are the first, first responders you will likely never meet in person.

Dispatchers answer calls and send deputies and medics to help.

They stay on the phone during the worst moments of many people's lives while they wait for help to arrive.

The Sheriff’s Office has around a dozen Dispatchers serving the citizens of Lane County. They cover the dispatch center operations 24/7, with 2 to 4 dispatchers working at a time. They dispatch for not only the Sheriff’s Office, but also Coburg Police Department, Oakridge Police Department, Oakridge Fire Department, Lane Community College Security (after hours), Parole and Probation, the investigative team for the District Attorney’s Office, Junction City Police (at night) and Lane County Mobile Crisis Services. During major incidents, officers from other agencies will often switch to our radio channels as well to improve communication between responders.

When the phone rings they never know what’s going to be on the other side. They answer the phone ready with their extensive training and years of experience, prepared to answer a simple question or help save a life.
