The national seat belt use rate in 2023 was 91.9%.

The Click It or Ticket campaign focuses on the remaining 8.1% who still don’t buckle up.

Why?

Thousands of lives could be saved each year if every person buckled up while on the road. According to NHTSA, half of the 25,000 passenger vehicle occupants killed in traffic crashes in the US in 2022 weren't using seat belts.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office does not have regular funding for dedicated traffic enforcement. However, our deputies are committed to the safety of our community, and that includes patrolling our roadways. Deputies will be using federal grant funding to staff additional traffic safety patrols on overtime through February 8th.

Deputies will be on the lookout for improper seatbelt use and all other dangerous driving behaviors.
