The City of Coos Bay celebrated Cabin Celebration Day on June 28th to celebrate the Mingus Park Community Building, popularly known as the “Scout Cabin,” recently being listed in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). There was a ribbon cutting, cake, popcorn, and community members enjoying this iconic and beloved property.
There will also be an Open House at the Cabin from 11am to 2pm during the July 4th celebration in Mingus Park. Everyone is invited to come learn about the history of this rustic-style log cabin and why it was listed on the NRHP, share stories about its past, and find out what still needs to be done to protect it for the future. This year is a special celebration because on July 13th, 1940, the City of Marshfield held a Saturday celebration in Mingus Park to mark the opening of the newly completed Mingus Park Community Building for the public and local scouting groups.
