UO release - EUGENE, Ore. — Cole Hocker won the men's 5,000 meters Sunday afternoon at Hayward Field, securing a second Team USA spot at the World Championships coming up in September. The former UO standout finished third at 1500 meters on Saturday.  Hocker took the lead early, only relinquishing the pole position during the penultimate lap but stayed in touch with the pack. He sat in seventh place at the bell lap but closed in 51.76, sticking to lane one—like he did to win 1500 gold in Paris last summer—and surging past the field for the win. Hocker crossed the line in 13:26.45 to win his third outdoor national title, and fifth overall.  The 5,000-meter team headed to Tokyo will be Hocker, Grant Fisher and Nico Young. Cooper Teare was fifth (13:27.56) in Sunday's race.  In the first track final of the day, Raevyn Rogers (2:00.64) was sixth in the women's 800 meters.  Kyree King ran a season's best of 20.20 in the final of the men's 200 meters, good for seventh. Deajah Stevens, in her first USATF Championships since 2019, qualified seventh overall in the semifinals of the 200 meters but was disqualified in the final for a line violation.  The 2025 USATF Outdoor Championships served as the selection event for the upcoming World Athletics Championships (Sept. 13-21, Tokyo) and NACAC Championships (Aug. 15-17, Bahamas). Complete teams will officially be announced at a later date.  In results at other national championships, the UO trio of Wilma Nielsen, Mia Barnett and Julia Nielsen went 2-3-4, respectively, in the finals (Aug. 1) of the 1500 meters at the Swedish Championships. At the Canadian Championships, Matthew Erickson ran his way to third place in the finals of the 800 meters.
