Dangerously Cold Weather

Dangerously cold weather is expected from Saturday, January 18 through Tuesday, January 21, with low temperatures in the mid 20s predicted for the early morning hours between midnight and sunrise.

Safety is our top priority during severe winter weather.

  • Please call 911 for emergencies or life-threatening situations. 
  • Sign up for PublicAlerts to receive information by text, phone, or email when dangerous weather or other emergencies are happening in the counties where you live, work, and play. 

Severe Weather Shelters

Washington County's severe weather shelters will be open 24 hours a day starting at 5 pm on Saturday, January 18 until further notice to ensure no one seeking shelter will be turned away. Get the latest forecast.

  • Walk-ins welcome. No need to call or sign up. No one will be turned away.
  • Pets are allowed — please be prepared to work with shelter staff.
  • Hot meals are provided.
  • For help with transportation to a shelter, please call 503-846-4722.

  • If someone outside is unsheltered and their life appears to be in danger, call 911.
  • If you are concerned about someone during cold weather, call Washington County Non-Emergency at 503-629-0111 to request a welfare check.
  • To help someone obtain transportation to a shelter, please call 503-846-4722.

Weather Closures & Delays

There are no current weather closures or delays for City of Hillsboro facilities or programs.

City offices and libraries will be closed and recreation centers will have limited hours on Monday, January 20 in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. See facility schedules.

Report Road Concerns

  • Report road concerns through email.
  • Call Public Works Dispatch from 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday at 503-615-6509.
  • After-hours, call Washington County Non-Emergency Dispatch at 503-629-0111.
  • To report issues with a traffic signal or roadway blockages due to trees or branches, call Washington County Non-Emergency Dispatch at 503-629-0111.

Downed Power Lines & Power Outages

To report a downed power line or power outage, call Portland General Electric at 503-464-7777 or 800-544-1795.

Water Emergencies

Report water emergencies to the Water Department at 503-615-6702 during business hours, or enter your phone number — including your area code — on the after-hours emergency pager at 503-615-6775 for a call back.

If you are experiencing a frozen or broken water pipe and unable to thaw the pipe or locate your water main shut off valve, contact Hillsboro Water immediately for an emergency water shut off.

DO NOT CALL 9-1-1 to request these services.

Only use 9-1-1 for immediate police, fire, or life-threatening medical help.
