📚 School is Back in Session – Drive Safely! 🚸 Our School Resource Deputies are on their campuses helping keep students safe as the new school year begins. Motorists, please be extra alert: Watch for children in crosswalks – they may be unpredictable and need extra time to cross safely. Stop for school buses with flashing red lights – Oregon law (ORS 811.155) requires all lanes to stop when a school bus is loading or unloading children, unless separated by a physical barrier. Observe school zone speed limits – typically 20 mph when children are present or when lights are flashing. Be mindful, even if you don’t see children immediately; school zones are active during posted hours. Expect increased traffic near schools this week as students, parents, and staff return. A few extra seconds of caution can prevent a lifetime of tragedy. ✅ Tip: Stay alert, reduce distractions, and plan extra travel time through school zones.
