SAVE THE DATE - LET'S CELEBRATE!
We are proud to share that the Mingus Park Community Building, fondly known as the Scout Cabin, has officially been listed on the National Register of Historic Places as of May 16, 2025!
Originally constructed between 1939 and 1940 through the Works Progress Administration (WPA), this cherished log cabin has served as a gathering place for generations of Coos Bay residents. Its designation honors nearly a century of craftsmanship, resilience, and community connection.
Why it Matters:
🏛️ Historic Designation – A vital piece of Coos Bay’s heritage is now nationally recognized and preserved.
💸 Preservation Opportunities – This listing opens the door to restoration funding and long-term stewardship.
💙 Community Spirit – This milestone reflects the tireless efforts of local advocates, especially former Parks Commissioner CoCo Sutton, whose leadership helped bring this vision to life.
đź“… Save the Date! Join us to celebrate this exciting achievement at Cabin Celebration Day on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the Mingus Park Community Building.
