Strike teams deployed from Oregon have made it to the Los Angeles area to assist with the largest wildfires burning there.

Three hundred firefighters and 75 engines from Oregon arrived Thursday night and began helping Friday morning to respond against the Palisades Fire, according to the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s office.

As of Friday, that fire had burned about 20,000 acres and was 6% contained. The Oregon crews have teamed up with CAL Fire and other agencies to patrol for hot spots and protect structures from the fire. The Palisades Fire started on Tuesday and is one of several fires burning in the Los Angeles area. The newest is the Kenneth Fire, which ignited Thursday afternoon in the San Fernando Valley.

Collectively the fires have burned more than 10,000 homes and other structures since Tuesday. At least 10 people have died.

The Oregon firefighters will be in Southern California for up to 14 days.

The Oregon State Fire Marshal’s office said this week’s deployment of crews is the one of largest out-of-state responses Oregon’s fire service has supported, comparing the assignment to the 2017 response to Santa Rosa and Napa.
