Description

Tardy slips pile up on Reynolds High School’s attendance desk. Reynolds is among the Portland area high schools cracking down on unexcused absences by barring students from attending events if they’ve missed too much class.

Oregon’s rate of student chronic absenteeism remains one of the highest in the United States, new data from the state’s Department of Education shows, with 33% of public school students in the state missing more than 17 days during a school year that is already one of the shortest in the nation.
