OCTOBER PROCLAMATIONS FROM YOUR CITY COUNCIL  
  
At the October 7, 2025, meeting, the Coos Bay City Council unanimously approved three proclamations recognizing Indigenous Peoples Day, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Filipino American History Month. Each proclamation was presented by a community representative, and the city was honored to welcome them to the Council Chambers for the readings.  
  
The Indigenous Peoples Day proclamation was read by Julie Siestreem, a Tribal Council member with the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua & Siuslaw Indians, who spoke to the importance of acknowledging the deep history, culture, and ongoing contributions of Indigenous peoples in this region and across the country.

The Domestic Violence Awareness Month proclamation was read by Rachel Espy, Executive Director of The SAFE Project, who highlighted the need for continued education, prevention, and support services for survivors and their families.

Filipino American History Month was recognized through a proclamation read by Helen Coughlin of the Oregon Coast Filipino American Association, celebrating the achievements, heritage, and lasting influence of Filipino Americans in Coos Bay and throughout Oregon.
