MAYOR'S MESSAGE
Welcoming the Holiday Season in Coos Bay
As the days grow shorter and our waterfront lights begin to glow a little brighter, Coos Bay is officially stepping into the holiday season. This time of year always brings out the best in our community—our small businesses, our families, our volunteers, and the many traditions that make our city feel warm even on the coldest coastal days.
Shop Small Saturday – November 29
We begin by celebrating Shop Small Saturday, a chance to support the local businesses that give Coos Bay its character and heart. When you shop local, you’re supporting your neighbors, strengthening our economy, and helping keep our downtown vibrant.
Nog & Cider Walk – 11:00 AM–3:00 PM
Enjoy a festive afternoon with the Nog and Cider Walk. Pick up your maps at Jennie’s Shoes and explore participating shops offering seasonal sips and holiday cheer.
Santa Meet & Greet – 2:30–4:40 PM
Families can stop by the Coos Bay Visitor Center for a special meet and greet with Santa. It’s the perfect opportunity for photos, wish lists, and a moment of magic for our youngest residents.
Walking Light Parade – 5:00–5:30 PM
New this year, the Walking Light Parade invites everyone to bring their brightest, most creative light displays and walk together in celebration. Join the community and meet Santa at Coos Bay City Hall before the stroll begins.
Christmas Tree Lighting – 5:30 PM
We’ll close the evening with the annual Christmas Tree Lighting at the Coos Bay Visitor Center, a moment that always reminds us of the joy and togetherness this season brings.
Empire Tree Lighting Celebration – Friday, December 5, 2025
The celebration continues in Empire with the Empire Tree Lighting at the Star of Hope from 5:00 PM–7:00 PM. Community members can vote for their favorite Empire business decorations as the district lights up for the season.
Santa’s Shuttle – Thanksgiving Through New Year’s Eve
Santa’s Shuttle returns for 2025, offering free evening rides from the Charleston Marina parking lot (Guano Rock Lane and Crossline Road) to Shore Acres State Park. The shuttle operates every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night—plus Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve—from roughly 4:15 PM to 8:00 PM heading to the park, with return trips until 9:00 PM.
While waiting, visitors can enjoy complimentary hot cocoa, coffee, cider, cookies, and kids’ crafts at the Charleston Fishing Families’ warm indoor space next to the lot. Donations are appreciated.
None of these events would be possible without the many volunteers, community partners, and local organizations that give their time and energy to make Coos Bay shine. Their dedication is a gift to all of us, and their efforts help create the traditions that define our hometown spirit.
Wishing everyone a safe, joyful, and meaningful holiday season. May the weeks ahead be filled with connection, gratitude, and the unique warmth that comes from celebrating together as a community.
-Joe Benetti, Mayor of Coos Bay
