MAYOR'S MESSAGE Turning Opportunities into Impact: Coos Bay Secures More Than $6.3 Million in Grant Funding In January 2025, Coos Bay made a shift and a determined effort to bring outside funds in to support city projects, through the development of a position dedicated to grant research, writing and administration. Our philosophy around grant seeking is to help support projects that would otherwise struggle to get funding, with the understanding that operational funds to maintain the program and/or asset need to be in place and stable for years to come. This effort not only centralized our grant effort, but it has also strengthened every aspect of the grant process. Our research and networking have helped evolve our awareness of what funds are available locally, regionally, within Oregon, and across the nation. Our grant writing skills have been finely honed to tell our unique story and need - helping to elevate our applications above the many requestors seeking funding. Our tracking, reporting and administration is exactly what you’d expect when you centralize an operation; it’s consistent and concise. From all that focus, our greatest success is often most noticeable within one grant, such as a recent award from Oregon Health Authority, under their Rural Healthcare Transformation program. With a robust grant program like we intentionally and continually are building, we can ensure that not only the Coos Bay community benefits but surrounding communities as well. With this $911,520 grant, we will be acquiring modern cardiac care equipment to be strategically distributed to emergency response agencies in Northern Coos County. Since inception, our Grant Coordinator, Christina Teixeira, in coordination with members of various departments, has successfully obtained $6,346,642.45 in grant dollars, supporting projects and asset acquisition for several city departments. Following are just a few of the recent grant success stories. Over the coming months, we plan to share a dashboard on the city’s website that will provide ongoing information on our grant awards, including what the grant funding supported.
