MAYOR'S MESSAGE

There’s nothing like strolling through the Farmers Market on a nice Wednesday in Downtown Coos Bay meeting local farmers, picking up fresh fruits and veggies, shopping for local art, and enjoying the sights, smells, and tastes of our community. Every basket of produce supports local families and brings us closer to the people who grow our food. In 2000 the Coos Bay Downtown Association (CBDA) Farmers Market started and has grown to be the largest Farmers Market on the Southern Oregon Coast. The Wednesday market is the hub of our coastal communities May through October. This week is National Farmers Market Week, and we are proud to celebrate the CBDA Farmers Market. The annual celebration of National Farmers Market Week highlights the important role farmers markets play in supporting local farmers, connecting communities with fresh, healthy food and strengthening local economies.

I encourage everyone to experience the Wednesday CBDA Farmers Market. Don’t be shy to talk to the farmers, I have found that they love to share their knowledge and passion of growing food. Look for a new food you have never tried before, let children pick out their favorites and enjoy all the extras like freshly cut flowers, fresh baked bread/desserts, handmade goods and music. Each and every purchase supports small farms and local businesses, keeping our community vibrant and sustainable. Hope to see you there next Wednesday!
