MAYOR'S MESSAGE

March is Women’s History Month and this week the City Councilors and I approved a proclamation to acknowledge the significant contribution women have had in shaping our nation and our community. Their hard work and dedicated focus have touched all areas of life and professional industries. Proclamations are a way for the City to bring attention to elements of life that may go unnoticed and also helps align voices across the nation.

This also can transition easily into calling all of us to acknowledge, participate, and support the many things at work in our community. To stand behind the people and businesses we believe in will help to further bind our community together towards a common goal. This can be done in so many ways:

Shopping local – support and frequent the businesses that are doing great things in our community.

Volunteer – there are many organizations that would gladly take a helping hand, private, non-profit and government. Check in with your kid’s school, the hospital, the library, the visitor center.

Do your part to keep your neighborhood safe and clean, and develop connections with your neighbors.

Your efforts might be the thing that helps a business or organization continue. You might learn ways your special expertise could be put to use. Encourage your friends and family to do the same. I think we might find just these little steps might set us on the path to a stronger more engaged community.
