MAYOR'S MESSAGE

Law Enforcement Appreciation Day

Today, January 9, we pause to recognize and celebrate Law Enforcement Appreciation Day — a moment to say thank you to the men and women who serve our community with professionalism, courage, and care.

The Coos Bay Police Department’s guiding values — Honor, Integrity, Excellence, and Teamwork — are more than words. They are reflected daily in how officers serve the public, support one another, and engage with the community. These values shape the department’s mission to efficiently provide quality law enforcement services by promoting a safe environment through a strong police-citizen partnership, with an emphasis on mutual trust, integrity, fairness, and professionalism.

Every day, officers and professional staff respond to emergencies, help people through moments of crisis, build relationships with residents and businesses, and work behind the scenes to keep our community safe and connected. Much of this work happens quietly, without recognition, and often under challenging and unpredictable circumstances.

We are fortunate to have a department that is not only committed to public safety, but also deeply invested in the well-being of our community. The people who serve in law enforcement are also neighbors, volunteers, coaches, and family members who care about this place and the people who call it home.

On this Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, we extend our sincere thanks to the Coos Bay Police Department and to law enforcement professionals everywhere for their dedication, service, and commitment to our community.

-Joe Benetti, Mayor of Coos Bay
