MAYOR'S MESSAGE

As we approach Independence Day, I invite all of Coos Bay to come together in celebration—not only of our nation’s founding, but of the strength and resilience that continues to define our community.

The Fourth of July is a time to reflect on the values that gave rise to this country: freedom, unity, and a deep commitment to building a better future. These values remain just as relevant today, especially as together, we face uncertainties across the nation and around the world. In times like these, our greatest strength lies in what we do right here at home - in how we show up for one another, support local efforts, and build lasting connections that strengthen the fabric of our city.

Coos Bay’s holiday weekend will be filled with opportunities to gather and celebrate together. From the downtown festivities and family activities available in Mingus Park (hosted by the Coos Bay Downtown Association) to the vibrant fireworks over the bay, there’s something for everyone. These moments—sharing a laugh with neighbors, enjoying the activities in Mingus Park, participating in the Firecracker Run (a South Coast Running Club event), watching children light up with joy—are powerful reminders of what it means to be part of a thriving community.

Let’s take pride not only in our nation’s independence, but also in the local spirit that makes Coos Bay a place where people care, create, and contribute. By investing our energy, kindness, and creativity into our city, we honor the ideals of the holiday in the most meaningful way possible.

On behalf of the City of Coos Bay, I wish you and your friends and family a fun-filled and safe Independence Day. Let’s celebrate what unites us and continue working together to make a difference - right here at home

-Joe Benetti, Mayor of Coos Bay
