MAYOR'S MESSAGE
A Tradition Worth Celebrating
Few events bring our community together quite like the Coos County Fair. Since 1912, the fair has been a summertime tradition, celebrating the people, agriculture, creativity, and businesses that make Coos County such a special place to call home. This year's fair takes place July 21–25 at the Coos County Fairgrounds in Myrtle Point, with something for every member of the family to enjoy.
Whether you come for the livestock exhibits, 4-H and FFA projects, carnival rides, delicious fair food, live entertainment, rodeo events, or simply the chance to spend time with family and friends, the fair offers something for everyone. It's an opportunity to celebrate our local traditions, support our youth, and reconnect with neighbors from throughout Coos County. One of my favorite parts of the fair is seeing the dedication and hard work our young people put into their projects, carrying on traditions that have been passed down through generations. Among this year's participants are Reese and Miles McGonagle, sons of Coos Bay Firefighter Josh McGonagle, who will be showcasing their work through 4-H.
If you're attending the fair, I encourage you to stop by the City of Coos Bay Police Department booth. Throughout the week, members from every division of the department will be taking turns staffing the booth to answer questions, share crime prevention tips, 911 information, and talk about the many ways they serve our community. It's a great opportunity to meet the people behind the badge, learn about the department's programs and services, and have a conversation in a relaxed setting.
On Friday, the Coos Bay Public Library staff will be representing our community at the Coos County Library Booth. Be sure to stop by to learn about the many programs, services, and resources the library offers for readers and lifelong learners of all ages.
The Coos County Fair has always been about more than exhibits and entertainment—it's about celebrating the people and communities that make our corner of Oregon so special. I hope you'll make time to enjoy the festivities, support our local exhibitors and vendors, and stop by to visit with our City staff while you're there.
