Lead by Rotarians, Bill and Lucy Ann Walker from Mississippi, this year’s Rotary International Service Trip to Guadalajara, Mexico was a powerful reminder of what happens when Rotary leadership, partnership, and service come together with purpose.

More than 70 volunteers, including over 30 Rotarians from the United States, joined forces with Rotary leaders and local partners in Mexico to deliver a week of meaningful service. In total, 22 Rotary Clubs from seven districts collaborated on the project, demonstrating the strength of Rotary’s global network and the impact that can be achieved when clubs work together. Distric 5110 Rotarians, Linda Brown (Medford Rogue) and Mike Pastryk (Medford), participated as volunteers in Guadalajara.

The results were extraordinary. Over the course of the trip, the team benefitted more than 8,200 people through a wide range of projects touching every one of Rotary’s areas of focus. With a total project budget of $59,000, the group delivered medical care, improved educational infrastructure, and provided essential resources to communities in need.

Improving Schools and Community Infrastructure

A major focus of the trip was supporting rural communities, providing services at local schools. Rotary volunteers worked alongside community members to improve infrastructure at five schools, helping create safer and more supportive learning environments for students.

Another critical need addressed during the project was access to clean water and sanitation. The team distributed 450 water buckets to families, providing simple but life-changing tools that help households safely store and manage drinking water.

Life-Changing Medical Services

The medical and humanitarian services provided during the week made an immediate difference for hundreds of people who otherwise have limited access to healthcare.

Rotary volunteers and medical professionals provided:

415 medical visits
418 vaccines
165 dental services
1,182 medicines distributed
60 hearing aids
8 wheelchairs
For many recipients, these services were truly life changing. Something as simple as a pair of glasses, a hearing aid, or access to medication can restore independence, improve quality of life, and open doors to education and employment.

Rotary Moments That Matter

Throughout the week there were countless “Rotary moments” where language, culture, and geography faded away, replaced by a shared commitment to service. Volunteers worked side by side, built friendships across borders, and saw firsthand how Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self creates lasting change in communities around the world.

The success of the Guadalajara project was made possible through the leadership and coordination of dedicated Rotarians, including project leaders Bill and Lucy Walker of Mississippi, along with many Rotary partners in Mexico who helped guide and implement the work.

Projects like this remind us that Rotary is not just a local service club. It is a global network of neighbors, leaders, and problem solvers working together to improve lives.

And the work continues. Planning is already underway for the next International Project Trip scheduled for February 6–13, 2027, inviting even more Rotarians to experience the power of service on a global scale.
