The northern lights, or aurora borealis, are seen from the White River West Sno-Park at Mt. Hood, Oregon on Friday, May 11, 2024.

An eruption on the sun over the weekend means people further south than normal might get a chance to see the northern lights Wednesday and Thursday night.
