Joint Firefighter Academy – Class #8 Begins

Coos Bay Fire & Rescue, in partnership with North Bend Fire Department and Charleston Fire District, has launched Class #8 of its Joint Resident Intern Firefighter Academy. This collaborative program brings together sixteen new and returning resident interns, apprentices, and newly hired career firefighters from across the communities.

The academy provides an intensive and hands-on training experience that serves as the foundation for a successful fire service career. Participants are immersed in real-world scenarios, mastering essential skills in fireground operations such as hose line advancement, search and rescue, ventilation tactics, and live fire evolutions.

The academy also emphasizes physical fitness and teamwork through structured conditioning, obstacle courses, and team-based challenges that build trust and resilience.

By combining the resources and expertise of all three departments, the Joint Academy strengthens interagency cooperation and fosters regional unity. Whether responding to structure fires, medical emergencies, or natural disasters, these new firefighters are laying the groundwork for a rewarding and impactful career in public safety.
