The Coos Bay Public Library will be closed Saturday, September 5 and Monday, September 7 for Labor Day. We will reopen at 10 AM on Tuesday September 8.   
  
Summer is ending but the good times at the Coos Bay Public Library keep coming! If you haven’t stopped by to get our September Calendar or checked it out on the website, https://www.coosbaylibrary.org/events/month, we have lots of great programming coming up this month. Our Spice of the Month samples will be available Tuesday, September 8. Stop by and get a sample of an artisanal spice blend from teas, tinctures, and tonics while supplies last!  
  
Families should be sure to check out our Coos Family Resource Fair on Thursday, September 10 from 4-6 p.m. Connect with organizations that offer services for young people and families, activities for young people and educational support. Learn what resources our community has to offer you.

9/2/26 - New Deputy to Patrol DS Newton Completes FTEP Congratulations to Deputy Newton for recently completing Patrol training! Lane County Sheriff’s deputies assigned to Police Services must complete Patrol Field Training and Evaluation Process (FTEP). They also attend Basic Police Academy at the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training for 16 weeks. Deputy Newton has been with the Sheriff's Office since the spring of 2022, and reassigned to Patrol after working in the Lane County Jail. Deputy Newton grew up in Junction City and has been a Lane County resident most of his life. Deputy Newton proudly enlisted in the Army Reserves after Highschool. Deputy Newton made friends who worked in Law Enforcement, some specifically were already working for the Lane County Sheriff’s Office. It was these friendships that led him to apply to become a deputy sheriff. Deputy Newton relayed that his faith and family are important to him. Completing Police Services FTEP is no easy task, it requires a tireless commitment. Deputies must rotate between shifts often working long past their normal secure time. They adapt to different day off patterns and move between coaches in order to gain the knowledge required to be successful. Obviously, this can be very stressful not just for the deputy but for family at home. Deputy Newton credited his wife with being his support through this process. Want to join our family?
