On December 13th, 2024, at approximately 11:45 PM, Deputy Freerksen was patrolling the area of Bunkerhill, Coos Bay, when he observed a grey 2016 Toyota Tundra turn onto HWY 101 off of Edwards Rd. The vehicle was swerving outside its lane and driving down the middle of the road, prompting a traffic stop at the intersection of 6th St and F St.
The driver was identified as Ernest Jackson (56). Upon initial contact, Deputy Freerksen observed that Jackson's speech was slurred, his eyes were glossy, and there was a slight odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. Deputy Freerksen asked Jackson if he would consent to Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFST), and he agreed.
After completing the SFSTs, Jackson was arrested and taken to the Coos Bay Police Department for further testing. He was issued a criminal citation for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants and another for Careless Driving.
"Police action is not indicative of guilt. All persons are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law."
