On December 13th, 2024, at approximately 11:45 PM, Deputy Freerksen was patrolling the area of Bunkerhill, Coos Bay, when he observed a white 2025 Chevy Equinox with an Oregon temporary tag turn onto Newport Ln off of Edwards Rd, driving the wrong way. Deputy Freerksen attempted to conduct a traffic stop near Flanagan Rd, but the vehicle continued until it stopped in the Chevron parking lot of Coos Bay.
The driver was identified as Kelly Blakey (44). Upon initial contact, Deputy Freerksen immediately observed her speech to be slurred, her eyes glossy, and there was a slight odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath. Deputy Freerksen asked Blakey if she would consent to Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFST), and she agreed.
After completing the SFSTs, Blakey was arrested and taken to the Coos County Jail for further testing. She was issued a criminal citation for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII) and another for various violations.
"Police action is not indicative of guilt. All persons are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law."
