Description

Delta Rotary member Pam Logan joined cyclists from ten countries to bike the Taiwan coast in an End Polio Now tour organized by Taiwanese Rotarians in conjunction with the 2026 International Convention.
Taiwan is a perfect place for bicycle riding, and the country’s Rotarians include many dedicated cyclists. Several Taiwan clubs collaborated to organize a six-day ride and invite Rotarians from all over the worrld. The route started in Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan and traveled the ruggest east coast of the island the metropolis of Taipei, a route that took the group along mile after mile of deserted beaches, past plantations of mango, pineapple, and coconut, and threaded between picturesque rice paddies.
Better than the scenery, though, was the opportunity to bond with Rotarians from Taiwan, mainland China, Japan, the U.K., Germany, Russia, Australia, Singapore, Canada, and Americans from other districts.
The theme of the tour was promoting RI’s mission – END POLIO NOW, GO GO GO! a chant that the team took up whenever they lined up for a group photo. Although it rained every day, morale never flagged, nor did the riders’ appetite, as the arrangements made by Giant Adventure included fabulous banquets and regional cuisine, frequently starring freshly-caught prawns, sashimi, stewed chicken, glutinous rice dishes, and fresh fruit.
