On August 29, 2024, at approximately 3:40 AM, Corrections Deputies were conducting a well-being check of Adults in Custody at the Curry County Jail. While doing so, a deputy discovered what appeared to be a Male Adult in Custody attempting to commit suicide.
The deputy entered the cell and immediately began life saving measures and requested emergency medical personnel to respond to the Jail. Cal Ore Life Flight and Gold Beach Fire responded and took over life saving measures, and the individual was transported to the Curry General Hospital. As of this release, the individual is being treated at Bay Area Hospital.
The Jail Commander and I were called, and we responded immediately to the Jail. Per standard policy and procedures, the Oregon State Police were requested to respond to the Jail to conduct the investigation. The Curry County District Attorney was notified. The Oregon State Police is the lead agency in this incident. Any further information regarding this will come from the Oregon State Police.
I would like to commend the quick actions taken by the Deputies involved in order to preserve the life of the individual in custody. I would also like to acknowledge the quick response of Cal Ore and Gold Beach Fire.
