COOS BAY FIRE & POLICE CONNECT WITH THE COMMUNITY DURING NATIONAL NIGHT OUT On Tuesday evening, August 4, Coos Bay Fire & Rescue and the Coos Bay Police Department joined residents in celebrating National Night Out at events held in both the Empire and Eastside neighborhoods. The evening brought together local families, community organizations, and public safety personnel for a night focused on building relationships, sharing information, and enjoying time together. Community partners, including Hospice, the Lions Club, and the Coos Forest Protective Association (CFPA), were also on hand, providing information about the services they offer and connecting with residents throughout the evening. At Eastside Park, Coos Bay Fire & Rescue demonstrated the Jaws of Life and hydraulic spreaders, giving children and families an up-close look at the specialized rescue equipment firefighters use during vehicle extrications and other emergencies. Firefighters explained how the tools work, answered questions, and invited visitors to tour one of the department's fire engines to learn more about its equipment and capabilities. The fun continued with games and activities alongside the Coos Bay Police Department. One of the evening's highlights was a water balloon toss that quickly turned into a friendly water balloon fight, drawing plenty of laughter from children, families, and first responders alike. In Empire, firefighters and police officers spent the evening visiting with residents, handing out stickers to children, posing for photos with families and community groups, and answering questions about public safety. During the event, firefighters also assisted a young child who needed a bandage for a minor cut. Live music throughout the evening helped create a welcoming atmosphere and added to the community celebration. National Night Out provides an opportunity for neighbors, first responders, and community organizations to come together outside of emergency situations, strengthening relationships and building trust. Events like these help residents get to know the people who serve their community while giving firefighters and police officers the chance to connect with citizens in a relaxed and enjoyable setting.
