At the April 1, 2025, meeting, the Coos Bay City Council passed a proclamation recognizing April 6–12 as National Library Week, with this year’s theme, “Drawn to the Library.” The proclamation was presented by Sami Pierson, Library Director, who highlighted the Coos Bay Public Library’s role as a vibrant community hub. Pierson shared examples of the Library’s wide-ranging programming, including a walking club, “book and hike” events that combine literature and exploration of local trails, and engaging offerings for all ages such as computer classes, cooking demonstrations, and even no-cook snack-making workshops. She also mentioned the Library’s creative outreach activities like Zumba sessions, emphasizing the importance of connection and community. “People really enjoy being able to go out and explore the local area as a group,” she noted, “especially those who are unfamiliar with the trails or are just seeking company.” The Council was also reminded of the Library’s remarkable engagement, with over 11,000 visits recorded in the past month alone, underscoring its value as a cornerstone of learning, wellness, and inclusion in Coos Bay.
