The Chinook Indian Nation in Washington has vowed to continue its fight for federal recognition after a setback at the U.S. Supreme Court.

A Pacific Northwest tribe is vowing to continue its fight for federal recognition after the U.S. Supreme Court declined to settle the issue.

On March 22nd, 2026, at around 7:41 PM, a Coos County Deputy was traveling north-bound on Highway 101 near mile post 231, and attempted to make a left hand turn off of the highway, when another vehicle, also traveling north-bound, ran into the back of the Deputy’s patrol truck. Both the Deputy and the other driver are uninjured. The Oregon State Police are the investigating agency for the incident. Please remember to always keep your eyes on the road and drive safe. Our distracted driving enforcement blitz is getting closer, beginning on April 1st.
