Celebrating a Service-Powered Club and Its Cornerstones: Eugene Southtowne Rotary

District Governor Chris Waugh recently visited the passionate and energetic Eugene Southtowne Rotary Club, which meets Thursdays at noon at the Eugene Mission. This deeply service-oriented club has more active projects than you can count and the distinction of having sponsored not one, but TWO satellite clubs.

The visit was an opportunity to spotlight the essential members who form the backbone of such a vibrant club.

First, every club needs a John Pfanner. A quiet force, John arrives early for every meeting to set up everything from parking signs to the cashier desk. Beyond logistics, he organizes the club's hospital supply program, sending donated medical goods overseas to help start clinics. His consistent, behind-the-scenes work is so invaluable he received two well-deserved awards.

Then there's Kathi Hoffer, a Rotarian of two decades with a record of local and international service. A past club president, she expertly navigated the club out of the COVID era, shifting its fundraising model to a more sustainable approach. Her dedication continues as she now supports five Eugene clubs in her role as Assistant Governor.

Eugene Southtowne exemplifies how strong, selfless individuals like John and Kathi create the foundation for a club's remarkable service and growth.
