Pickup/Drop-off Empire, Friday, January 9 at the Empire Fire Station, 189 S Wall Street, Coos Bay, 10:00am – 10:30am. Pickup or drop-off library materials in front of the Empire Fire Station. Tween Cooking Club with OSU's 4-H, Friday, January 9 in the Myrtlewood Room, 2:00pm – 3:30pm. Learn cooking basics in a club geared towards tweens. Come to one or all sessions; sign up required for each session. All supplies provided. Each session will focus on a different recipe or technique. Fridays: January 9: One pot pasta; February 13: Tacos, guacamole and pasta; March 13: Smoothies and snacks. Made possible through OSU Extension and 4-H. Art at the Library, Friday, January 9 in the Myrtlewood Room, 5:00pm - 7:00pm. Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up. - Pablo Picasso. Learn about imitating famous art pieces. We will be using mini canvases to replicate famous art pieces. There will be reference material available, but you're welcome to bring your desired piece to replicate. We will help you match the style, and learn a little bit about the history of the art piece as well. All materials will be provided. Please wear appropriate clothes as painting can get messy. Free snacks and beverages will be provided. Community Yoga, Saturday, January 10 in the Myrtlewood Room, 9:00am - 10:00am. Who is this class for? Beginners and experienced yogis alike! All levels are welcome. Teens and Adults. What to Bring: Comfortable clothing, yoga mat, water bottle. Book Brunch, Saturday, January 10 in the Myrtlewood Room, 11:00am - 12:00pm. Book Brunch is a book club devoted to reading, unrestricted by genre, plus, of course, brunch! Each month we will read a book, then meet the second Saturday of the next month for waffles, orange juice, coffee etc., and a chat. This is a no pressure club, if you didn’t finish, that’s ok, just know there will be spoilers. We’re all here to share our love of books and breakfast food! This month we will be reading Heartwood by Amity Gaige. We will meet Saturday, January 10 at 11:00am in the Myrtlewood Room. Hope to see you there! Please consider donating a bag of fabric to the Coos Bay Library for use in our twice-monthly sewing classes with OCATEC. Limit one bag per person per week; 100% cotton or linen fabrics only, please; We are unable to accept fabrics which have been exposed to cigarette smoke. Our sewing classes are free to the public and enormously popular, so your donation goes a long way towards keeping fabric arts alive in our community. Winter Reading Game Piece, Winter Reading Challenge 2026, January 1-February 28, All Ages. Read (or listen) to three books, get a sticker and an entry for a grand prize drawing. Keep reading and complete more of the challenges for bragging rights and more entries. Winners will be announced March 2. All entries must be received at the Coos Bay Public Library by February 28. Complete the entire challenge for five chances to win. Challenges cannot be repeated.
