Description

Dr. Mark Unno specializes in Pure Land, Zen, and Shingon Buddhism. He is the author of Shingon Refractions: Myōe and the Mantra of Light (2004), editor of Buddhism and Psychotherapy Across Cultures (2006), and author of articles on Japanese Buddhism, comparative religious thought, interreligious dialogue, and Buddhism and psychotherapy. His Buddhist essays are published in Tricycle, Buddhadharma: The Practitioner’s Quarterly, and Lion’s Roar.
He also served as president for the Society for Buddhist-Christian Studies.
It was Dr. Unno’s great honor to be a part of the collaborative effort between the U of O and the Eugene Sakya Center (Nyen-Gyud Samten Choeling for Tibetan Buddhist Studies) that welcomed His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet in 2013. The special event took almost a decade of planning, and an estimated 12,000 attendees came to hear the Dalai Lama’s presentation, “The Path to Peace and Happiness in the Global Society.” See picture below.
Mark and his wife Megumi have lived in Eugene for 25 years, and she teaches the Japanese tea ceremony.
Have dinner with your fellow Rotarians in downtown Eugene at The Davis restaurant and bar or comment below for the Zoom link to join us virtually.
