The Bend Bulletin and Central Oregon Daily were on hand to document a very successful and heartwarming Saturday as Sisters Rotary and other community locals teamed to build 35 beds complete with homemade quilts and destined for children in Sisters Country through Sleep in Heavenly Peace.

Rotary President Jim Lanzarotta said Rotary and Kiwanis clubs partnered to fund the build.

“These are for children who don’t have a bed,” said Darcey, project coordinator for Sisters Rotary. “No child should sleep on the floor.” Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a national nonprofit with a Central Oregon chapter that has delivered thousands of beds across the region in recent years.

In addition to the bed frames, each child will receive a handmade quilt donated by local quilters. Sisters Rotarian Julie Fugate organized the quilt drive.

“Often times these kids don’t have anything that’s brand new that’s their very own,” Fugate said. “All these quilts are new, made just for them.”

Materials for the build were provided at reduced cost by Hoyt’s Hardware and Lumber at a significant discount. The build was held in the outdoor lot of EarthWood Homes LLC in Sisters.
