Lane Co. SO release - On April 4th, Lane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of sex abuse that occurred in Veneta, Oregon. During the investigation, deputies learned Michael Matthew Martinez, 23, of California, met the minor victim online. Martinez then traveled from California to Oregon and sexually abused the victim several times. Lane County Sheriff’s detectives assigned to the Lane County Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force began investigating. On April 14th at about 1 p.m., Lane County Sheriff’s detectives and deputies served a search warrant at a residence in the 1800 block of Tabor Street, Eugene. Martinez was contacted and arrested. After additional investigation, Martinez was lodged at the Lane County Jail on the following charges: - Sex Abuse in the 2nd Degree; - Sodomy in the 3rd Degree; - Rape in the 3rd Degree; - Encouraging Child Sex Abuse in the 1st Degree; - Encouraging Child Sex Abuse in the 2nd Degree; - Using a Child in Display of sexually Explicit Conduct; - Online Sexual Corruption of a Child in the 1st Degree; - Luring a Minor. Thanks to the Federal Bureau of Investigation for their assistance on this case. This arrest is part of an ongoing effort by local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to combat child exploitation and protect vulnerable members of our community. Thanks to the many agencies who participate in the Lane County ICAC Task Force and collaborate to make this work possible. The investigation is ongoing, and no further details are available at this time.
