A man Portland Police sought for repeatedly posting videos of himself driving wildly has been arrested — after calling police himself to report he’d been the victim of a hit-and-run.
Portland Police began investigating reports last month, including on social media and the "BikePortland“ website, of a man who posted videos of himself on Instagram driving through public parks, hanging out the window of his truck while driving, passing people illegally, speeding through residential neighborhoods, and generally ignoring both traffic laws and common sense.
On Friday, police got a call about a hit-and-run in the 3700 block of Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard. Responding officers recognized the name of the caller; it was the same man who had been posting videos.
Police arrested Oscar Burell Jr., 33, and towed his 1994 GMC Sierra truck as evidence. He’s been charged with three counts of reckless driving, criminal mischief in the first degree and recklessly endangering another person.
At the scene, police say Burell told them he had gotten into a confrontation with another driver, who sideswiped him and drove away.
