ARE YOU FAMILIAR WITH THE FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY?

Are you familiar with the Friends of the Library? The friends are a group of volunteers who have been actively supporting the Coos Bay Public Library since 1976. They raise funds for library programs by running the bookstore in the lobby of the Library (open 12-5:30 p.m. Wednesday - Saturday) and by hosting a book sale the first weekend of every month. They sell used books, DVDs, Puzzles and more that have been discarded from the Library or donated by community members. These gently used treasures include everything from the latest paperbacks to leatherbound classics, from kids’ movies to old Hollywood films. You never know what you will find!

The money generated from these sales (about $15,000 a year) is used to help pay for the wonderful children’s programming that is offered throughout the year at the Coos Bay Public Library as well as toys and equipment for the children’s area, including our new boat! They also fund prizes for giveaways, items for the children’s monthly bookbox, and innumerable other things that make our Library special. And it’s all done through volunteers who give their time and expertise to make the Library a great place for the community. If you are looking for a way to give back to the community, consider becoming a volunteer with the Friends of the Library. They are always looking for help!
