DEQ release - QUICK FACTS:  Location: Crook, Hood River, Jefferson, southern Wasco counties; End date: Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 19, 2026; Smoke sources: Multiple wildfires in Oregon and Washington.  The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality issued an air quality advisory Monday, Aug. 17, 2026, due to multiple wildfires in Oregon and Washington for the following counties: Crook, Hood River, Jefferson, and southern Wasco.  DEQ expects the air quality advisory to last until at least Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 19, 2026. DEQ and partner agencies will continue to monitor smoke in the area.  DEQ expects intermittent smoke in western Umatilla county until at least Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 19, 2026.  Smoke levels can change rapidly depending on weather. People most at risk include infants and young children, people with heart or lung disease, older adults and pregnant people.
