After Tuesdays election results, I am very humbled to have received over 8000 votes for Sheriff. Last night, a group of citizens asked me to appear at the BOC meeting, where there was a packed house and they awarded me with a beautiful certificate for my 10 years as your Sheriff. I have been with the Curry County Sheriffs Office for 34 years, serving the citizens of Curry County. The last five months have been very hard due to the budget cuts that cut us so deep, only leaving us with a couple Deputies to try and handle the huge call loads. We were cut fifteen positions in patrol, two positions in the jail and two dispatch positions. With these cuts we are not able to provide adequate public safety. Without pointing fingers, I was against making these cuts, but this is a long story and way too much information for this post. I want you all to know that we here at the Sheriffs Office go above and beyond to do what we can in this situation and we will do our best to provide public safety with what we have. I was born and raised here in Curry County and I have devoted half my life serving the citizens and visitors of Curry County and I will continue to fight for adequate public safety.
