ODFW release - August 25, 2026 - The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) in consultation with the Pacific Fishery Management Council (PFMC), the States of Oregon and Washington, and advisory body members met today and have taken the following in-season management actions related to the summer commercial troll salmon seasons from the US/Canada Border to Cape Falcon, Oregon:  ACTION TAKEN:  Effective 12:01 AM Thursday August 27, 2026, landing and possession limit for the commercial troll fishery in the area between the U.S./Canada border and Cape Falcon are 5 Chinook and 50 marked (adipose fin-clipped) coho per vessel per landing week (Thursday-Wednesday).  RATIONALE:  The current estimates are that there is approximately 2% of the 18,700 Chinook quota remaining. The reduction in the landing and possession limits was made to facilitate continued access to the coho and Chinook for the remainder of the season ending in September.  It is recommended that fishery participants that have not done so, deliver prior to the start of the upcoming landing week Thursday, August 27 to avoid being in possession of Chinook and coho in excess of revised landing and possession limits and to allow full landing and possession limits in the August 27 – September 2 landing week. For possessed Chinook and coho to be accounted for in the current Thursday-Wednesday landing week (August 20-26), they must be sold to an open buyer prior to Thursday, August 27. Please consider your preferred buyer’s schedule Wednesday, August 26 as it may affect your ability to complete delivery.  Fishery participants are reminded that vessels landing salmon into Oregon from any season North of Cape Falcon are required to notify ODFW at least one hour prior to landing by either calling 541-857-2546 or sending notification via email to [email protected].  Notification shall include vessel name and number, number of salmon by species, port of landing, location of delivery, and estimated time of delivery.  Additional regulations that apply to vessels fishing out of Oregon, North of Cape Falcon that apply to the 2026 seasons include:  • Within 24 hours of any closure of the fishery vessels must land and deliver their salmon.  • Vessels landing in Oregon are limited to only fishing between Leadbetter Pt., WA and Cape Falcon, OR.  • Vessels landing into Oregon must possess a valid commercial license and a valid troll salmon permit.  • Vessels landing into Oregon are limited to locations on the Oregon side of the Columbia River upstream as far as Tongue Pt., the beaches at Gearhart/Seaside and Cannon Beach, or into Garibaldi.  Visit https://www.dfw.state.or.us/MRP/salmon/ for more information on Oregon's ocean salmon seasons and fisheries.
