The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory at 3:40 a.m. on Monday valid from 5 p.m. until Tuesday 5 p.m. for North Oregon Cascades, Cascades of Marion and Linn counties and Cascades of Lane County.

The weather service adds to prepare for, "Total snow accumulations between 5 and 9 inches."

Lane County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue (SAR) and deputies made multiple rescues over the weekend, as heavy rain and snowfall are having a significant impact on rivers and rural roads in Lane County. On March 13th, SAR responded to Winberry Creek Road above the snow line for a stranded vehicle. The driver’s vehicle would not start. SAR personnel were able to start the vehicle and ensure they made it out of the snow. On March 16th, Marine Patrol deputies assisted Cottage Grove Fire Department with a subject who was stranded by floodwaters. Deputies also flew drones in several areas around the county to evaluate floodwaters. The same day, Deputies and a SAR volunteer assisted motorists unable to leave the Castle Rock area south of Cottage Grove due to fallen trees. They directed them to an alternate access road out of the area. Later in the evening, SAR volunteers responded to the Eagles Rest area near Dexter to assist a driver who had been stranded overnight in the snow by falling trees. Volunteers cut trees out of the roadway and followed the driver down out of the snow. Please follow these tips to stay safe when you explore the outdoors in our county: ⛰️ Always tell someone where you are going and when you plan to return. 🌨️ Know conditions before you leave - rain in the valley can mean ice up high! 🏕️ Be prepared to stay out overnight - even if you don't plan to get out of your car. 🗺️ Bring maps for offline navigation - cell service can be spotty! Nearly every week, Lane County Sheriff's Search & Rescue volunteers assist our residents and visitors in all types of environments.
