A prolonged stretch of dangerous heat is expected to continue across large portions of the southern United States into next week, with some communities forecast to experience their hottest temperatures of the year and, in some cases, the hottest conditions seen in several years, according to federal weather officials, The Weather Channel reported. Forecasters say a combination of above-average temperatures and high humidity will increase the risk of heat-related illness across a broad region.
